Corner Cast

corner cast is an AR-based news platform for mobile or VR device environment providing issues with read-aloud-experience to encourage users to spend more time focusing on not only mainstream articles but also news articles from every corner.

Receiving serious issues around the world through journalism is surely an part of daily life continued since the early days of photojournalism. However, users who got used to quickly pay attention, enjoy briefly, then move on to the next page looking at their devices endlessly are now established in their daily lives, 'serious, complex, and important issues worldwide'. It is getting difficult to spend enough time carefully since services and providers are encouraging concentration behavior of ‘easy & quick UX’.

Project ‘corner cast’ is an alternative news platform that induces the experience of learning 'with time and effort' by reading these important issues aloud. Through reading-aloud experience that inevitably requires time, stamina, concentration and participatory behavior, users come to accept issues along with alternative simultaneous reading and cognition.

This project began with the research question: How is pain delivered to the worldwide public today through visual media?
From this question, characteristics of existing news that delivery systems and identified issues that arise in the actual reading experience are examined.

Based on the conducted research findings and proposed solutions, a fictional news platform service and developed its identity design is conceptualized along with key representative UI screens.
